Would you like to have a say about how the area continues to develop? Would you like to get more involved: get your hands dirty and help care for the new woodlands locally or learn more about them and the wildlife you see?
If so, the Heart of the Forest Forum is consulting with people who live in this area over the next couple of weeks. They'll be talking to people as they visit places like the new cycle centre and Conkers or you can have your say on-line by filling in a short questionnaire.
It should take no more than five minutes, and your input will help shape the next stages of development here in the heart of the Forest. More »

Proposed Development at Holywell Spring Farm, Burton Road, Ashby-de-la-Zouch
Don't miss out on YOUR chance to have YOUR say about potential future development in YOUR local community.
Residents and businesses are invited to a public exhibition to give their views on plans to develop land at Holywell Spring Farm, Burton Road for housing and other community uses.
You may have heard about or attended the previous consultation regarding development proposals for this site, in September 2009. Since then the proposals have evolved taking into account the feedback that was received. The masterplan has been amended and further visual information has been developed to explain how the development could look and feel. Capita Symonds, on behalf of Nurton Developments, seek your comment and feedback on the proposals and whether there is anything else they should consider before making an outline planning application. More »
On Thursday 26th May 2011, from 2pm to 7:30pm, a public exhibition, which will include a display of outline plans for potential development of the site, will take place at:
Ashby Methodiist Church Hall
Burton Road
Ashby-de-la-Zouch
LE65 2LF
Representatives from Capita Symonds, Nurton Developments and DPM Limited will be on hand to explain the proposals, answer your questions and seek your feedback. Record levels of Government borrowing mean that public spending will have to reduce.
Over the next four years it is likely that Leicestershire County Council will need to make savings of around £70 million – approximately 25% of its budget (excluding schools).
Over half the savings (c£40 million) will be found from making even more efficiency improvements - but that will not be enough; service reductions will have to be made. Over the coming years Leicestershire County Council will be faced with some very hard choices about services. More »
Leicestershire County Council would very much like your views on how to tackle this issue.
An on-line Budget Consultation Questionnaire asks which services should be reduced, which should be protected and whether you agree with the County Council’s proposals on council tax. The questionnaire would only take a few minutes to complete.
You can access the on-line questionnaire by clicking on the title of this article. » Less
The resurrection of the Annual Village Fair was a great success. All the comments have been very favourable and it appears that everybody enjoyed themselves. There was a grand turnout of Snarestonians and lots of visitors. So far, we have made around £1500, with more to come from the auction that we are planning to hold in The Globe. The profits will be used to improve the Conery by (a) contributing to the rebuilding the path and (b) to go towards connecting electricity and water to the pavilion, so that everybody will have access for events, small parties, etc. Lastly, a really big thank you to all the people who gave so much time and energy to making it all work. Special thanks to Chris Greene, who persuaded so many companies to present such excellent raffle and auction items; to The Globe for their support; and to James Hunt for manning the microphone and holding everything together. We look forward to repeating the event next year.
Phase I has now been completed and the results are as follows:-
Week 1: 21 speeding cars (top speed 40mph)
Week 2: 45 speeding cars (top speed 47mph)
Week 3: 30 speeding cars (top speed 47mph)
Week 4: 19 speeding cars (top speed 56mph)
We used various locations along Main Street; as you can see, there is a problem (including one person, who clearly needs psychiatric help, doing 56mph!). No doubt, the actual number would have been more; but most drivers did slow down when they saw us. The full results are on the village website. We are waiting for data from telegraph pole mounted cameras, which recorded speeds during two 24-hour periods and will also post the results on the website. Thanks to Jim and Sue Kendrick, who got it started, and to all the volunteers who helped to make this happen. We’ll be back for a week sometime in January; then we look to a decision on some form of speed restriction device.
Next year’s production will start rehearsing within the next couple of months. Any new people who want to join in the madness are very welcome. Contact Simon Hiorns if you want to know when the first meeting will be; otherwise, the usual grapevine will operate among the regulars.
